Drafts and Design is a partnership program among Tulsa Foundation for Architecture and Tulsa breweries that invites guests to participate in a wide variety of hands-on design workshops while enjoying locally crafted beer. Mark your calendar, Drafts & Design takes place the first week of each month. From turning historic Tulsa photos into original works of art through hand-tinting to creating abstract punch needle wall hangings, Drafts and Design offers something unique for everyone. Workshops include all necessary supplies and tools and are led by expert facilitators. A variety of local beers may be purchased to enjoy during each workshop directly from the brewery.

The practice of hand-tinting black and white photographs can be traced all the way back to the days of daguerreotypes, which predate Instagram filters by over 180 years. Join facilitator Rachel Rector to learn the art of tinting photographs by hand. In this workshop you will hand-tint two 4 x 6 reproduced historical Tulsa photographs of your choice. All supplies are included and after the workshop you’ll take home two original works of art!

*Please note that workshop image selections will vary from those show for promotional purposes.

From Eerie Abbey Ales:

“The brewery itself was started by Joshua Schrock and James Jankowski when we home brewed together beginning in 2014. We added John Godwin as an owner later on and together the three of us own Eerie Abbey Ales.

The name is derived from one of owners living on Erie Ave, here in Tulsa. We love Belgian style beers so that’s where the Abbey came in and then, to add twists to traditional styles we added an “E” to Erie to make Eerie!”

About Rachel Rector:

Rachel Rector is a fine art film photographer whose work utilizes experimental film, camera-less photography, and historical printmaking techniques to evoke the ethereal, daydream quality of a nostalgic moment in nature. She often adds poetry, collage, and textile elements to her hand-printed photographs to convey the sentiment of the natural space. Her images have been published in magazines, online publications, and displayed in galleries throughout the Midwest. Rachel has developed educational workshops believing that teaching 18th century processes like cyanotypes and anthotypes captivate students’ senses and encourages them to become more engaged with their environment. She resides in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
