ABOUT OWEN PARK NEIGHBORHOOD: The history of the Owen Park neighborhood can be traced to the early 19th century. A description of the area was given by Washington Irving in his book, Tour of the Prairies. A monument in Tulsa’s Owen Park denotes the point where the lands of the Osage, Creek and Cherokee nations met. The first American settler was Chauncey Owen, husband of a Creek woman who qualified for a land allotment. This land later became the Owen Park neighborhood that was developed between 1910 and 1930. Its borders are Edison Avenue on the north, the municipal Owen Park on the east (Tulsa’s first public park), the Keystone Expressway (Hwy 412) on the south, and Zenith Avenue on the west. Owen Park neighborhood has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1999. The neighborhood boasts historic mansions, Craftsman style homes, and period revival styles, such as Tudor and Colonial. It is one of the closest neighborhoods to the Tulsa Arts District and downtown Tulsa.
