TFA DISTINCTIVE DWELLINGS
Harwelden Mansion

$15 | $11.25 | First Entry at 5:30
Tulsa boasts a wide variety of residential architecture from the late 1800s through today. From midcentury modern, craftsman bungalows and colonial revival to contemporary mansions, there is an abundance of interesting homes throughout the city. The goal of TFA’s newest residential-focused program, Distinctive Dwellings, is to give those who love architecture an opportunity to see behind the doors of Tulsa’s most distinctive residences through self-guided exploration.
This Distinctive Dwellings open house features Harwelden Mansion.
On a rolling hill just south of downtown and north of The Gathering Place is one of Tulsa’s most distinguished and finest examples of English Tudor-Collegiate Gothic architecture. Built in 1923 by wealthy oilman, Earl Harwell and his wife Mary, the four-story 15,000-square-foot mansion, carriage house and gardens occupy a full city block.
Although the mansion has undergone remodeling over the years, it is relatively as it was in 1923 with a stunning 2018 – 2020 renovation that followed best practices in historic renovation standards and honored the mansion’s beautiful origins.
Today, the mansion’s private owner, Teresa Knox and her husband, Ivan Icosta, are dedicated to honoring the stunning architecture, the historical significance, and the Harwell family.
