Each year, the Tulsa Foundation for Architecture hosts a special event just for our Members. It’s a chance for us to invite our friends out for an evening of mingling, conversation and cocktails in an architecturally significant setting.
This year will be no exception!
On April 30, 2015 from 5:30-7:30 PM we invite you to join us in one of Oklahoma’s most beautiful modern residences— the Robert L. Jones House.
Robert Lawton Jones co-founded the noted Tulsa architecture firm of Murray-Jones-Murray in the 1950s. When he decided to design a home for his own family in 1959, he chose a plot south of Tulsa near the new Skelly Bypass. It was only natural the design would echo the sharp lines and uncluttered style MJM was becoming so famous for. Jones studied under Mies Van der Rohe at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and the influence is undeniable.
The home became an instant sensation, garnering national and worldwide press. Arts & Architecture raved about it in 1960, and Look magazine called it the International House of Style. But the most notable accolade was presented in 2001 when the Jones House was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This distinction is noteworthy because the house was the first modern residence in Oklahoma so recognized, it was less than 50 years old and the architect was still living. Any one of those sets you apart from the crowd!
It’s been almost 60 years since Robert Lawton Jones’ low, long and lean house wowed the world. We hope you’ll join us April 30th and soak up a little of that wow-factor, meet our new Executive Director, and learn about the many exciting things in store for TFA!

This event is free to current TFA members. Reservations are required.
Your individual membership entitles you to one free admission. Family membership entitles you to two tickets (kids free). Archive membership entitles you to four tickets. Corporate members receive six tickets, and major sponsors receive ten tickets. Corporate members and major sponsors will be recognized at the event.
