Tulsa boasts a wide variety of residential architecture from the late 1800s through today. From midcentury modern, craftsman bungalows and colonial revival to contemporary mansions, there is an abundance of interesting homes throughout the city. The goal of TFA’s residential-focused program, Distinctive Dwellings, is to give those who love architecture an opportunity to see behind the doors of Tulsa’s most distinctive residences through self-guided exploration. Each guest will received a brochure with historic information about the property and have the opportunity to explore the property at their own pace.

This DISTINCTIVE DWELLINGS open house features Bruce Goff’s First Tulsa Home!

Join TFA at 312 E 19th St, the first home designed by renowned architect Bruce Goff in Tulsa. Built in 1918 when Goff was just 15 years old, this residence offers a glimpse into the early creativity of a visionary who would go on to redefine organic architecture.

Highlights:

🔹 The Beginnings of a Genius
As you stand before the home, imagine a teenage Goff, already an apprentice at Rush, Endacott & Rush, sketching plans for this Prairie-style house. His talent was evident even at this young age, setting the stage for a groundbreaking career.

🔹 Architectural Details
Notice the clean lines, overhanging eaves, and strong horizontal emphasis characteristic of the Prairie School movement. Though Goff would later embrace more experimental forms, this home reflects his early admiration for Frank Lloyd Wright and his attention to proportion and craftsmanship.

🔹 Goff’s Lasting Influence
While walking around the property, consider how this modest home was the first step in a career that led to imaginative masterpieces like the Bavinger House and Shin’en Kan. Even in this early work, Goff’s ability to think beyond convention is evident.

We invite you to take your time exploring the home, reflecting on how a young architect’s first design laid the foundation for a lifetime of innovation.

NOTE: Please note that this home will be unfurnished the day of our DISTINCTIVE DWELLINGS open house.
